Changes...they are a coming!

Well...change is kind of a pain at first, but it certainly does make things exciting!! :-) As you may know by now, your schedule may have changed (slightly in some cases...not so slightly in others). If you are visiting this page, I am teaching you (or your child) and I am very excited about that! Be sure and visit my profile to get the "low down" on who I am and for my background!

A little side note about this website. I have had it set up for a couple of weeks, but our school filter blocks it. I am awaiting approval for it to be allowed on the school's network so that I can edit it daily from school. (When I get home, it is all about my 5 year old Jake!! It's hard to break free from that!) I am going to have to go ahead and try to run this from home until I get some word on the websites approval on the filter list.

From now on, you will look for your class daily post. If I teach you in 6th grade gifted, you will look there. If you are in my 8th grade gifted, you will look there. And finally, if you are in my 3rd or 4th period physical science classes, you will look there. I typically do not give homework unless a student has to finish up questions from a lab. Usually, there is ample time to finish that in class. Students should be studying for quizzes every day, however. 10-15 minutes per night of quality studying should be a regular! I will post what we did in class, any possible homework, and about upcoming tests. Quizzes will be every Friday in all classes.

Should you have any questions for me, feel free to call me at the school or email me at akjohnson@jackson.k12.ga.us . I look forward to having a fabulous rest of the year!!

Fabulous Tuesday

Hello All...
I am still awaiting the Tech people to allow access to this website from our school, but I thought I would start to post here anyway for those who know about it. Today we finished up the volume lab (3rd period as always is a bit behind and I will take their labs up tomorrow. The class period is MUCH shorter than the rest...it's not them!). We started talking about density and doing density demonstrations. Students will start calculating density tomorrow and will begin a density lab.

There will be a quiz on Friday. Students should be studying all of their notes, paying particular attention right now to the graphic organizer, "What is Matter & Why Does that matter?" Students should also be studying what density is and should be able to explain to you what happened in their density demonstrations today (again with the exception of 3rd period...they will start that tomorrow!)

If you have questions, please email. By the way, there are a few updates occurring on infinite campus within the week (our grading program). I am not putting any other grades in there until this is complete. (I don't want to have to enter things twice! :-) ) Just an FYI!

Saturday...Saturday!

Hello my awesome students (& parents)!
I have just created this blogspot to keep you up to date on homework and on what we are doing in class. I'm going to work to update this daily, so those students in my 4th period will probably have to remind me daily so that I will get into good habits early!

I will begin posting next week, and you probably will not see this until then, BUT... here is what will be going on this week thus far:
*Chemistry starts this week. If you don't have your lab safety contract signed by Monday, you will not be able to do any further experiments until I get that. Instead, it will be questions and answering for you. Get this in so you can be a part of the labs this week!
*Homeroom forms are now WAY PAST DUE! I have about 6-7 students with forms outstanding. Silent lunch starts for those without their forms ON MONDAY! :-) Don't have to spend your lunch in silence staring at Mr. Tolbert!!!
*Friday quiz as usual this week! Make sure you are studying all your notes daily!! 15 minutes per day keeps you from scrambling at the last minute!
*I will start conferencing with you about your grades bi-weekly this week. I am putting in grades this weekend!
*First UGA game this weekend!!! Go DAWGS!
*Last but certainly not least...Keep thinking positive thoughts for Colton! We can't wait til your back Colton!!
